There is an increasingly generalized idea worldwide that the food supply will not be able to increase at a sufficient rate to meet the demands of the growing world population. Along these lines, agriculture plays a significant role in generating food in the "renewable" category.
By the same token, Latin America, particularly Chile, has particularly favorable characteristics for agriculture. It is countercyclical with the northern hemisphere (where 87% of the world population is concentrated). It offers excellent climatic conditions and ideal soil for intensive, highly productive crops, and it has water available.
For investment portfolios, agriculture through investments in land is a real, tangible asset that can serve as an hedge to inflation, in addition to being a cash flow generator. However, just like in may economic activities, the link between agricultural activities and the capitals market is still very delicate.
